Where to save and where to invest in your home

It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of April. Time moves quickly and so do prices.

I speak to so many clients who feel they need a large budget to start improving their home. But actually, you can start in a much more considered way. It’s not about doing everything at once,

it’s about knowing where your money makes the biggest difference.

Here’s how I usually approach it.

Invest in what you use every day

Your sofa, your bed, your dining chairs, these are the pieces you live with daily. Comfort, proportion and quality matter here.

A good sofa will last for years. A bad one will remind you every single day that it wasn’t quite right.

Pay attention to the details you touch

This is something many people overlook.

Light switches, door handles, kitchen handles, bathroom taps, these are small elements, but you interact with them constantly. When they feel considered, the whole space feels more refined.

Even updating kitchen handles can completely shift the look of a room without the cost of replacing everything.

Get the foundations right

Anything built-in or difficult to change later is worth thinking through properly.

Joinery, wardrobes, kitchens, lighting placement, these shape how a space works. Cutting corners here often leads to frustration later on.

Be more relaxed with the rest

Accessories, styling pieces, smaller furniture, these don’t need to be forever decisions.

They’re a great way to bring in personality and evolve your home over time without committing to something too fixed.

Mix things, don’t match everything

A home feels more natural when it’s layered.

You don’t need everything to be high-end. Pairing a well made sofa with more relaxed pieces often creates a much more interesting and liveable space.

Don’t rush it - The Golden Rule!!!!

The best homes aren’t done in one go.

They come together gradually, with a clear direction. Taking your time usually leads to better decisions and a home that feels much more like you.

If you’re not sure where to start, this is often where a bit of guidance early on can make all the difference helping you prioritise and avoid costly mistakes.
